About Highland School of Technology

Highland School of Technology is Gaston County’s first magnet high school and a proud winner of the National Blue Ribbon School award in both 2017 and 2023. Known for its strong academics and innovative programs, Highland earned a perfect 100 performance grade score and an A letter grade for the 2024–2025 school year. View our school profile here.

Highland prepares students for a successful future through three focused academies: Health Sciences; Business, Legal, and Information Sciences; and Manufacturing/Engineering Technology and Graphics. Students engage in hands-on learning and are challenged to think critically, giving them the skills they need for college, careers, and life.

Recognized year after year for academic excellence, Highland consistently ranks among the top high schools in North Carolina for graduation rates and student achievement. The Charlotte Business Journal named Highland the No. 1 high school in the Charlotte region for college and career readiness.

Highland will host open house events on Thursday, January 22, 2026, and Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

These events give prospective students and parents the opportunity to tour the school, meet with teachers and staff, and talk with current students and families.

Applications for Highland will be available January 12, 2026 on the Gaston County Schools enrollment page.
